The Blind Dance Company is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to empowering lives of the visually impaired through the art of dance. In doing so the BDC creates employment opportunities within the entertainment industry for the blind community. The organization formed in 2017 and has yet to be shy of publicity or a live audience since! The group formed after professional dancer and founder Hydeia Muhammad volunteered time instructing and choreographing a scene for a local blind theatre company. During this time she noticed a need within the arts space for artists with disabilities to thrive and have access to ongoing classes. Since forming and molding into its own entity, the BDC has been featured on multiple media outlets including ABC, CBS, iHeart Radio, LA Daily and much more! While based in Los Angeles, the group offers virtual lessons to members based in other locations. The troupe is constantly growing and takes pride in providing quality, inclusive and diverse entertainment within the community.
