Presenting Lifting the Fog in Recognizing Twice-Exceptional Abilities among BIPOC Learners
Dr. Charissa M. Owens, an expert in Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB), currently serves as the Director of DEIB at Yale University’s School of Nursing. She holds a Ph.D. in Exceptional Education from the University of Central Florida where she focused her studies on twice-exceptional learners. Her tenure includes leadership roles at the College of Charleston, where she significantly advanced diversity initiatives. Dr. Owens has developed impactful DEIB strategies, authored notable publications, and led significant projects including Yale’s centennial publication. Recognized for her dedication, she has received several prestigious awards, including the Martin Luther King Humanitarian Award.
