Biography

Emily Yankowitz is a sixth-year Ph.D. candidate in Yale’s Department of History. Her research examines how Americans shaped the concept of citizenship from the Revolution to 1868. Emily has been a member of the Department of History’s Diversity Committee since 2019 and has particularly advocated for accessibility concerns for people with invisible disabilities, including herself. She was delighted when Kenya Loudd joined the Committee in 2021, and an incredibly productive collaboration began, culminating in the formation of a committee to organize a university-wide conference related to disability and accessibility at Yale. Emily has had the honor and pleasure of being a co-organizer of the first, second, and now third annual Symposium on Disability and Accessibility.
